The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has rated Australia as the best place to live in and work.

Australia retains its top spot on the OECD’s Better Life Index for a third year in row. It scored high for public engagement due to compulsory voting with a 93% turnout at this year’s election. The average life expectancy in Australia is 82 years and 90% of the people are happy with the housing situation. These figures are higher than the OECD index averages.

The life expectancy in Australia is above the OECD Index by 2 years, whereas the average OECD Index for the housing situation is 87%. The OECD average for positive experiences is 80%, whereas 84% Australians say they are content with their lives and have more positive experiences.

Another survey conducted by the Boston Consulting group also ranked Australia as the top place to live in. Around 28,000 people living in 11 countries participated in this survey.  Better economic opportunity, work conditions, standard of living and education were some of the key factors that influenced the choices made by the survey participants.

Australia’s second largest city, Melbourne, was also ranked as the top city in the world to live for the third consecutive year, beating Vienna which ended up in second place. The rankings were compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit.  Melbourne scored perfect scores for healthcare, education and infrastructure.
